November 10, 2016 | On Sunday, November 6th, we held our inaugural Futures Workshop at our new wrestling room located on the Belmont H.S. campus. This workshop was the culmination of 4 Sundays of advanced preseason wrestling training.
Sixteen wrestlers from our programs at 77th Division P.A.L., Belmont, San Fernando, San Pedro, and Topanga Division P.A.L. took part in the academic workshop. The workshop was presented by Michael Lopez, who is currently earning his Masters degree in the field of Social Work from USC. It consisted of an overview of the college application process, including information about A-G requirements, financial aid, and the SAT and ACT tests.
Following the workshop, the student-athletes received advanced wrestling training from BTSLA Executive Director Yero Washington.
At BTSLA, our mission is to not only prepare our girls and boys to wrestle, but to help prepare them for life. The Futures Workshop held this past Sunday is the first in a series of workshops we will offer our youth over the course of the season.
Our new space was made possible thanks to support from our BTSLA Board of Directors, Belmont High School, the LA84 Foundation and the Los Angeles Schools Police Department.
