Recapping Inaugural Jamboree

Posted: June 15, 2012

The Inaugural Beat the Streets – Los Angeles Wrestling Jamboree was held at the Vista Middle School gymnasium on Tuesday June 12, 2012.
Wrestlers from Vista Middle School, Los Angeles Leadership Academy, and Mt. Gleason Middle School were in attendance to participate in the culminating event for the first Beat the Streets – LA season.
The jamboree included 20 wrestling bouts, matching the athletes against one another, allowing them to demonstrate the skills they have developed through dedication to the sport over the past few months. The wrestlers were cheered on by a crowd of students, family and friends and urged forward by coaches Jeremy Earl from Vista Middle School and Morris Bird from Los Angeles Leadership Academy.
Executive Director Yero Washington and Program Director Kevin Lake organized the event and were joined by Board Members Jeff Newman and Brian Guerrero, as well as consultant Mark Black.
This event was made possible by the dedicated service of the After School All-Stars, the coaches, staff, and board members of Beat the Streets – LA and, of course, the student athletes themselves. It was a fitting way to celebrate the end of the inaugural Beat the Streets – LA season.
