BTSLA Shines at CAUSA Kids Folkstyle Championships

April 10, 2017 | Over 40 wrestlers from Beat the Streets Los Angeles attended the always-competitive CAUSA Kids Folkstyle State Championships on March 18-19th. Wrestlers from the San Fernando, Topanga, and South El Monte programs represented BTSLA at the Selland Arena in Fresno, California where they competed against over 200 teams from across California.
The San Fernando Tigers captured team titles in the Boys Bantam, Girls Intermediate, Girls Novice, and Middle School Girls divisions. The San Fernando program finished with 100 total team points earning them the overall lead in team points.
Nineteen wrestlers from the San Fernando program earned medals for their top 8 finish. Among these, Jasmine Villegas was the 140 pound middle school girls champion, and Samantha Larios was the 150 pound middle school girls champion. Mia Villatoro and Brooklyn Perez both finished as runners up in the Intermediate girls divisions. Top boys finishes from the Tigers were Evan Azurdia, 3rd place, Moises Gomez-Puentes, 2nd place, and Isai Fernandez, 1st place.
Topanga PAL sent 8 wrestlers to the tournament with a total of five medalists. The top finisher for the Topanga program was Andrew Barrios who was the runner-up in the 195-pound middle school boys division. Jairo Rivera and Eduardo Ruano placed 4th and 5th respectively in the middle school boys 160 pound division. Vivian Velazquez and Genesis Arenales finished as 6th and 8th place finishers in the 117-pound middle school girls division.
Mia Delgado of Beat the Streets South El Monte placed 3rd in the middle school girls 175lb weight class.
