International Competition To Be Held During 4th Annual Benefit Weekend
Los Angeles, CA: Beat the Streets Los Angeles (BTSLA) announces that it will host an International Competition between the U.S. and Japan Women’s Senior Freestyle Wrestling Teams. The friendly match will be the centerpiece of the organization’s 4th Annual Benefit Weekend.
The Japan and U.S. Women’s Wrestling Teams represent the top two globally-ranked teams, respectively. Japan’s team is unquestionably the most powerful in the world, most recently winning the Team Title in the women’s division at the 2017 United World Wrestling World Championship in Paris, France. The United States placed a strong second at the same competition, held in August.
The competition serves not only as an excellent opportunity to highlight women’s wrestling, but also to showcase Los Angeles as host of the 2028 Olympics. Furthermore, BTSLA will honor Anita DeFrantz, Olympic Athlete and International Olympic Committee member, with its inaugural Leaders in Sport Award.
“The Japanese Women’s Senior Freestyle Wrestling Team is a perennial power in women’s wrestling,” noted Terry Steiner, U.S. Women’s National Coach. “To have them participate in Beat the Streets Los Angeles’ International Competition is an incredible gesture of goodwill and effort to promote women in sport. This is an event that the U.S. Women’s Team looks forward to supporting, and there is no better cause to raise awareness for the betterment of underserved youth through the transformative experience of wrestling.”
Lineups for the U.S. and Japan Women’s Wrestling Teams will be announced when finalized.
All proceeds of the 4th Annual Benefit Weekend will be directed to BTSLA’s programming efforts. The non- profit’s signature program features wrestling events alongside leadership-building activities and personal mentoring in 24 schools and neighborhood training centers. In addition, BTSLA operates a summer Futures Camp and Downtown Los Angeles Wrestling Academy. Over 650 boys and girls annually benefit from these offerings.
