Andrew Ramirez – Male Athlete of the Month, May

Posted: June 8, 2017

Andrew Ramirez is finishing up his first year of wrestling at Irving Middle School. Prior to wrestling, Andrew received over 6 years of Jui Jitsu training which has made the transition into wrestling fairly easy for him. His favorite tournament was the BTSLA City Championships because it was challenging. His favorite move is the cradle.
Off the mat, Andrew likes math, volunteering, and helping people clean and garden. At one point, he also spoke four languages: Japanese, Mandarin, Spanish, and English.
“Andrew consistently comes to practice and pushes himself. While performing warm-up stretches and drills, he doesn’t cut corners and doesn’t complain. The only time I see him a bit down is when he has to leave early for Jiu Jitsu training. During the 2016-2017 Season, Andrew came to over 30 practices and I believe is among the top of all BTSLA wrestlers in terms of consistency. He gives 100% when competing and has shown up to multiple practices outside Irving. He placed 3rd overall in the city his first year wrestling.” – Coach Richard Do
