Beat the Streets LA Concludes Memorable 2021

Posted: December 22, 2021

As we wrap up 2021, we are grateful to look back on a year of memorable accomplishments for the Beat the Streets LA community.

We started the year off with our Spring Academy. Our community programs hosted outdoor workouts, push-up and jump squat challenges, workbook activities, a chess tournament, and a program finale on Zoom. Over 250 students participated in the spring activities.

We also hosted our second The Tomorrow’s Leaders Program, offered to high school juniors, seniors, and recent graduates to prepare student-athletes for professional and academic careers. The workshops focused on topics such as college and career planning, finances, wrestling training and coaching tips.

Beat the Streets LA was an honored recipient of two generous grants; one from the LA84 Foundation and one from West Coast Sports Associates. The grant awarded by the LA84 Foundation was the second largest grant in the nine-year history of Beat the Streets LA.

This past summer, we celebrated the graduation of 19 of our soon-to-be Beat the Streets LA alumni. 15 went off to attend college in the fall, two joined the U.S. Marine Corps, and one went trade school! We proudly wish them a bright future as they pursue their passions from a foundation of strength.

We participated in two fun beach events this year! The first event was a beach wrestling clinic hosted by Angel City FC, Los Angeles’ newest women’s professional sports team! At the event they distributed athletic gear, including Nike sports bras, to the girls of Beat the Streets LA.

The second event was a Beat the Streets LA  Wrestling Bonanza! The Coaches from our Downtown Academy lead the workout activities and mini wrestling scrimmages. Afterwards, the youths and parents were invited to stay for refreshments and games.

Beat the Street LA made the news this year! Valeria from our Topanga program was interviewed on the Kelly Clarkson Show and shared her exciting experience as a young female wrestler.

In the fall, Beat the Streets Los Angeles gathered with friends and family last month to celebrate wrestling achievements at the 2020 Olympics and to share a vision for a bright future.

Featured guests included Adeline Gray (2020 Olympic Silver Medalist, 6x World Champion), Kyle Snyder (2016 Olympic Gold Medalist, 2020 Olympic Silver Medalist), Terry Steiner (USA Wrestling Women’s Freestyle National Team Coach), and Bill Zadick (USA Wrestling Men’s Freestyle National Team Coach).
