Fall Youth Championship
Posted: November 15, 2024
On Sunday, November 10, Beat the Streets LA hosted its annual Fall Youth Championship at Belmont High School in Los Angeles. This community event brought together over 140 young athletes from 11 of our programs: Oxnard, Topanga, Antelope Valley, El Monte, South El Monte, San Pedro, Downtown Academy, Irving Middle School, Frost Middle School, Valor Academy Middle School, and Dana Middle School. The energy was palpable as athletes of all skill levels came together to compete, learn, and grow in the heart of Downtown LA.
The competition brought together both novice and seasoned girls and boys from our elementary and middle school programs, showcasing a remarkable range of talent and experience. For many athletes, this championship marked their very first taste of competitive wrestling, while others were more accustomed to the mat. By grouping athletes based on experience, we provided everyone with a fair and positive competition experience. The diversity among participants underscored the broad reach of our programs, bringing together youth from varied backgrounds and communities to pursue a shared goal: challenging themselves and growing together.
The strength of the BTSLA community was truly on display as over 40 of our Tomorrow’s Leaders participants stepped up to volunteer at the event. These young leaders took on various roles, from working the officiating tables, awarding medals to the placewinners, and coaching youth wrestlers from their programs. Many even had the chance to officiate youth matches, applying what they learned in our officiating workshop. Their dedication and hard work not only made the event a success but also showcased the incredible growth and commitment of our Tomorrow’s Leaders.
This year’s championship was not just an athletic event—it was a celebration of community, dedication, and the collective effort that makes Beat the Streets LA’s mission possible. The support we receive year-round from our dedicated partners, donors, foundations, athletes, coaches, and volunteers plays a crucial role in bringing events like this to life. Thanks to their generosity, we were able to offer this championship at no cost to all participants, ensuring that every young athlete had the opportunity to compete, regardless of financial background.
We are deeply grateful for the continued support of everyone who made this event a reality. Your contributions make a lasting impact on these young athletes, and we are proud to continue providing them with the resources and opportunities to succeed both on and off the mat.
Thank you to our supportive community, and congratulations to all the athletes who participated. We look forward to seeing you all again at future Beat the Streets LA events!
