2017 Futures Camp Fundraiser
Posted: April 26, 2017
On February 23rd, 2017, Laura Stein & Sam Goldfeder welcomed friends and supporters of BTSLA into their home for the 3rd consecutive year to raise funds for the BTSLA Futures Camp Scholarship Program. Thanks to the efforts of Laura & Sam, Michael Goldfeder, and Leigh Stein & Joe McNamara, $34, 500 was successfully raised towards our $50,000 goal.
During the evening, Laura & Leigh Stein delivered impassioned speeches about the impact our Futures Camp has on the youth who receive scholarships and expressed their belief in BTSLA’s mission to transform the lives of youth in Los Angeles through our sports-based youth development program.
BTSLA founder and Board President Andy Barth and BTSLA Executive Director Yero Washington also discussed BTSLA’s past, present, and future vision to create sustainable wrestling programs accessible to all youth, emphasizing the role Futures Camp plays in our ability to make a positive impact in the lives of more and more youth each year.
Unquestionably, the highlight of the evening were the speeches given by four BTSLA student-athletes themselves. Kathy, a wrestler at our program at the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Century Station YAL in South LA; Eduardo and Jairo, wresters at our program in Canoga Park through a partnership with the LAPD Topanga Division PAL program; and Salma, who began wrestling at our program at Porter Middle School and now wrestles at Granada Hills Charter HS, all shared the impact that BTSLA and the sport of wrestling has had on their lives, as well as the uniquely-impactful summer camp experience made possible through our Futures Camp Scholarships they have received in prior years.
With the 2017 Futures Camp just under 2 months away, BTSLA would like to thank all those who have contributed to this years’ scholarship program and invite all those considering supporting our goal of awarding 100 Futures Camp Scholarships (50 boys and 50 girls) to make a donation today.
