May 27, 2014 | Patricia (PK) Arana has been named Female Athlete of the Month for May, BTSLA announced today. A 5th grader in the San Fernando Tiger community-based program at San Fernando High School, PK earned the honor after winning 2 different weight groups at the season-ending Jamboree on May 10th, finishing with a 6-0 record on the day.
“PK is a youth wrestling coaches dream.  She exhibits great work ethic, enjoys wrestling, and has an above average wrestling IQ for her age.  She leads by example, listens intently to coaching instructions, and will wrestle anyone in the room if asked to do so.  She is the ideal youth wrestler, and I’m thankful to be able to coach and influence her at such a young age.  She has a bright future in life and in wrestling and I look forward to watching her mature into a successful student-athlete.” said BTSLA Coach Chad Solano. Solano, who also coaches the San Fernando High School team was recently named 2014 Daily News High School Coach of the Year.
PK has a further connection to the program through her father, Jess Arana who serves as a volunteer coach and was instrumental in bringing BTSLA to San Fernando through a unique partnership with the Los Angeles School Police Department.  The elder Arana is a Sargent in the LASPD and longtime coach in the community.
