November 22, 2016 | On Saturday, November 19, 2016, over 100 Beat the Streets Los Angeles student-athletes and their coaches were honored to take part in a wrestling clinic featuring 2x NCAA All-American and 3x World Team member Reece Humphrey.
Using his unique blend of skill, strength, and humor, Reece taught the girls and boys skills to help them succeed on the wrestling mat, wowed them with his feats of strength, and made them laugh throughout the clinic.
During the clinic, Reece guided the entire group through a game of “step on the foot” where the goal is to simply step on the foot of your opponent. The game is designed to teach beginning wrestlers the fundamentals of stance, motion, and footwork. The competition whittled down to 2 finalists and Matt Moreno of King Middle School was crowned the king foot-stomper.
This event was the first event of the 2016-17 BTSLA season. It served as a way to introduce new girls and boys to the sport of wrestling through learning from a world-class wrestler.
The coaches and wrestlers from San Pedro High School were instrumental in preparing for and hosting the clinic. They lent their muscles to setting up the mats and their time and efforts to assist with all facets of the event.
