May 28, 2014 | On the evening of Wednesday, May 21st at the home of Laura Stein and Sam Goldfeder over 60 guests came together to recognize the efforts of BTSLA while raising over $55,000 for the Camp Scholarship Program, nearly doubling the $30,000 goal.
The gracious hosts opened their beautiful Beverly Hills home and treated guests to a night of cuisine, a social, and keynote speech by NCAA Champion wrestler and noted author Anthony Robles. Robles, who was born without his right leg shared his powerful story and delivered a moving testimony about his wrestling and life journey. Robles’ “Unstoppable” mantra rang true to the guests in attendance and BTSLA Founder and Board President Andy Barth was so moved by the speech, he stood up and pledged to match any donations given that night.
Host Sam Goldfeder closed the evening’s program with ardency, “As some of you may know, I represent professional athletes and when I talk to my clients, we often talk about the various teams and players. But when I talk to wrestlers, I hear words like ‘transformation’ and ‘overcoming adversity’, this is why we must do everything possible to share this sport with our youth.”
BTSLA’s Camp Scholarship Program is in just it’s second year of existence, sending 26 Los Angeles area youth to wrestling camps in 2013; 2014 will see 60 student-athletes attend wrestling camps who would have otherwise may not have the potential profound camp experience.
