Neysa Alvarado – Female Athlete of the Month, June

Posted: July 12, 2017

Neysa Alvarado is an 8th grader at Sal Castro Middle School and has been attending the DTLA Wrestling Academy since it’s inception August 2016. After a successful first season under her belt, she is eager to make wrestling part of her future as she continues on to high school. Prior to joining wrestling, Neysa participated in cheer and long distance running. She recently completed her first marathon and spends her spare time exercising with her older sister. Neysa is also a member of the LAPD Rampart Division Cadets program where she is working toward her dream of becoming a police officer.
Neysa’s favorite part of wrestling is the tumbling — from handstands and bridges to back walk-overs, she continues to lead the team through warm-ups. She also enjoys learning different variations of the single leg takedown.
“Wrestling seemed natural to Neysa from the moment she stepped on the mat. As a multi-sport athlete, she adapted easily to the tumbling part of wrestling and quickly picked up on rest. I’ve enjoyed watching her compete because she keeps a positive attitude and demonstrates to the team the true value of good sportsmanship. I look forward to watching Neysa continue her wrestling career and take the lead of the girl’s team at the DTLA Academy.” – Coach Valerie Burciaga
