February 12, 2015 | On February 4th, two amazing sport initiatives converged to set the stage for a unique opportunity for Los Angeles area girls. United World Wrestling’s “Super 8” ambassador and American wrestling star Helen Maroulis headlined a free clinic in conjunction with National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD).
The “Super 8” campaign, which is focused on the development of girls and women wrestlers worldwide, is an 8-week initiative that culminates in International Women’s Day on March 8th. While the Women’s Sports Foundation’s NGWSD, celebrated annually since 1987, honors the achievements of female athletes and encourages participation of girls & women in sports.
Nearly 200 girls of all ages packed the gymnasium at San Fernando High School for the special event. Joining Maroulis were past USA Wrestling world champions Elena Pirozhkova and Los Angeles area native Victoria Anthony.
