The Winter Academy is an opportunity for Beat the Streets Los Angeles wrestlers to be part of a fun program involving mastery of wrestling skills, healthy living habits, academic achievement, and character development.

The program will involve mentorship, fitness, wrestling video review and analysis, home-based solo wrestling skills and drills, jumping rope, literature, chess, and keeping a journal. Also, if possible given the current guidelines from local officials, coaches will facilitate socially-distanced outdoor workouts with small groups.

You must first be registered for Beat the Streets LA this season at btsla.org/2020-21.

Once registered, each participant will be assigned to a team led by a trained Coach and Mentor.

Prior to the first day of the Winter Academy, Beat the Streets coaches/mentors and staff will coordinate with you a pick-up or delivery of the Winter Academy Packet. The packet will include a cinch bag, journal/workbook, jump rope, book, chess set, t-shirt, and yoga mat. Only those who are fully committed to participating in the entire Winter Academy Program are eligible for this unique opportunity. Those who participated in the Summer or Fall Academy will not receive the items they already have (jump rope, chess set, yoga mat).

During each week of the Winter Academy, you will participate in a weekly 45-minute Zoom meeting, 1-2 outdoor workouts, complete workout challenges and participate in other activities. 

By participating in each aspect of the Winter Academy, you will earn points for your team. 

At the end of the Winter Academy, all teams will come together for one large Zoom meeting on March 11 and participate in the Winter Academy Finale. During the Winter Academy Finale, the team with the most points will be crowned the Winter Academy champions!

    By clicking submit below, on behalf of my child I hereby affirm that they are permitted to participate in the Winter Academy program ("Program"). By enrolling my child in the Program, I certify that I am cognizant of all of the inherent dangers of my child engaging in (1) outdoor physical fitness activities alone or in a group, and (2) activities that involve the use of a computer and video conferencing and that I will monitor my activities to ensure that they are carried out safely. I understand and agree that neither Beat the Streets Los Angeles nor its staff, coaches, directors, agents, and/or instructors may be held liable in any way for any occurrence in connection with the Program which may result in injury, death, or damages to me or my family, heirs, or assignees. In consideration of being allowed to enroll in the ProgramI hereby personally assume all risks connected with the course, and I further release Beat the Streets Los Angeles and its staff, coaches, directors, agents, and instructors for any injury or damage which may be incurred by my child while they are enrolled in the Program, including all risks connected therewith, whether foreseen or unforeseen; and further to save and hold harmless Beat the Streets Los Angeles and its staff, coaches, directors, agents, and instructors from any claim by me on behalf of myself or my child, or either of our estates, heirs, or assignees, arising out of my child’s enrollment and participation in the Program. I have fully informed myself of the contents of this release by reading it before I click Submit below, I have been advised to submit my child, at my own expense and time, to a medical examination to ensure my child is capable of performing physical fitness activities.
