Jesus Arana – National School Resource Officer of the Year

July 25, 2014 | The The National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) held it’s 24th annual School Safety Conference July 13-18 and named BTSLA Coach Jesus Arana the prestigious Floyd Ledbetter National School Resource Officer of the Year.
The award recognizes a School Resource Officer that has made a specific and significant contribution to their local town, city, county and/or school districts. Arana, a Los Angeles School Police Department (LASPD) Sergeant was recognized for his role in developing the youth wrestling program serving his home community of San Fernando.
“Jess Arana exemplifies what it means to be a mentor to youth and I could not think of a more deserving individual for this national honor. He is a living example of the transformative power of sport and because of his passion for giving back to not only his community, but all of Los Angeles, he has positively impacted the lives of the many youth wrestlers he leads. It is an honor to have Jess as a part of Beat the Streets – Los Angeles and we are grateful for all he has done to support us and our programs,” said BTSLA Program Director Kevin Lake.
For the past 2-years Arana has served as a BTSLA coach and mentor and was instrumental in bringing a Beat the Streets / LASPD partnership to the San Fernando community. Through his work, the Beat the Streets “Tiger Squad” has developed into a model program for youth development through sports.
